What to expect
The first appointment takes around 1 hr and starts with a consultation during which your case history regarding area troubling you is taken. You will be asked where the pain, stiffness or disfunction is being experienced? What you think may have triggered it and your past medical history? What your aims or targets are for end of treatment? Questions regarding your lifestyle are also detailed. A physical examination is conducted to check standing posture, sitting and/or gait, you may be asked to remove some articles of clothing so ensure that you have some undergarments that you feel comfortable in. Depending on the case different orthopaedic tests will be taken, together with a palpation of the tissues to determine the state of inflammation, injury, mobility or muscular weakness. Once this is done, you can be advised as to whether Osteopathy/Naturopathy is suitable for you and if so, a working diagnosis will be given together with a prognosis of how long treatment will be necessary. With some patients I may also advise some additional measures such as Podiatry, differing exercise modalities or referral such as occupational therapy.
Onward sessions are around 30 mins, with ongoing advice on how to enhance the effectiveness of Osteopathy/Naturopathy by you at home.
What to bring
Essentially just bring yourself ;-) but you may find it helpful to speed things along by checking below and depending on age, hobbies and medical conditions these vary. To give some examples:-
If you are a Mother coming with their baby please bring the red book, obs and gyn notes if possible;
If you are a musician and can either bring your instrument in or a video of your art please do so;
If you have many chronic medical conditions please bring a print out of your medications and copies of any reports or investigations such as X Rays please bring these if you have them;
With sports individuals bring your shoes in are this tells me alot and / or video coverage of your sport.
Teenagers may feel self conscious and prefer to attend with a swimming costume, leotard or T shirt and shorts for the Osteopathy session
Attendees under the age of 18 yrs old or those who "do not have capacity" should be accompanied by a chaperone.
You are also welcome to bring one other person with you to the appointment if you prefer.
What to forward prior to appointment
If there is anything you wish to ask prior to the appointment to see if Osteopathy or Naturopathy is suitable for you please contact me on scootergirl64@outlook.com. If you are attending for a Naturopathy session a 7 day diet diary with all drinks, snacks and meals and how you feel on those days is helpful. Videos of sports and musician performances can be forwarded also.
